Cape Cod fans: we’ll be making our Cape debut on 7/26 in Falmouth at Songbird Collective. Message us for details, and see you there!
It was a hot one on the Play roof deck today. Titus, Mark, and Brian arrived at 4:30 to set up. The deck was still mostly sunny, mid-80s or higher, and no breeze. Thankfully the shade worked in our favor and cooled things down a bit by showtime.
Titus and Mark kicked off set 1 as a duo with a solid string of originals. Brian joined on mandolin for ‘The Girl I Love…’ and stayed for the rest of set 1 and 2.

Set 1:
Turkey in the Sky
Seaside
Nothing to Check
Lift Our Spoons
Dumb Fly
The Girl I Love is Just Out of Reach
We Had Houses
Party on the Roof (Lake Street Dive)
We’ve Got Tonight (Kenny Rogers / Bob Seger)
Set notes: Titus welcomed the crowd by wishing everyone a Happy Alex Kintner Day to all who celebrate, and told folks to see Jaws historian Kate for more info. After ‘We Had Houses,’ the band presented local legend and superfan Kim Kaye with a special card for her mid-June birthday (she was sadly out of town for both birthday weekends, so we thought this would help spread local birthday cheer). Before ‘We’ve Got Tonight’ Titus tells the story of being “Kenny’s Biggest Little Fan” when he was three years old.

We then took a short break to hang out with the many friends in attendance. By now the weather was perfect. We reconvened at 7:15 for set 2, the mostly covers set, which kicked off with a bangin’ Tetris theme paying homage to the Tetris mural at the roof deck.
Set 2:
Korobeiniki (Tetris theme)
Cleaning Tables
You Don’t Need Much for a Song
Joey (Bob Dylan- one chorus)->
Joey (Concrete Blonde, w/ Brian on lead vocals)
Radiation Vibe (Fountains of Wayne)
Losing My Religion (REM)
Misery Business (Paramour)
Masterpiece (Big Thief)
Surrender (Cheap Trick)
Encore: Dead Flowers (The Rolling Stones)
Set notes: Was this the first time anyone has played Joey > Joey? We think yes. Titus instructed the crowd for the four handclaps on ‘Misery Business’, but didn’t give them quite enough heads up when the clapping part arrived in the song. Two claps is good enough. ‘Surrender’ featured crowd-sourced tambourine playing by LV and Matt. We ended the set and started packing up, but the amped-up crowd demanded an encore. Thankfully we knew one more song.

After the show we hung out on the roof deck until closing time. We chatted with friends who traveled as far as South County Rhode Island to see us tonight (thanks Matt!). It was great to see so many “first-timers” in the audience tonight including: Kent, Jamie, Tracy, Nate, Mike K., Crystal, Sean, Craig, and Cojo.
Adam from Play requested a signed setlist - we were happy to oblige and contribute this historic artifact to Play’s vast memorabilia archives. Thanks to Adam and Lauren for booking us at their fine establishment. If you’ve never been to Play Arcade in New Bedford, MA, you simply must.
Titus received some of the best praise ever from the trio of show-goers at the back corner table. We’re paraphrasing, but it was along the lines of “You guys were better than most musicians we’ve seen in downtown New Bedford. Every song was good and I kept wanting to hear more. And the sound volume was perfect.”
Yes, we can thank Brian Cass and his sonic know-how for getting the levels just right across all instruments and vocals. Well done sir! And huge thanks for contributing your speaker and mixing board to tonight’s show.
That’s a wrap. Titus and Mark will be back with another update after our Falmouth show on July 26 - follow Songbird Collective for show info. For now, we are “7 for 7” with our live shows, undefeated and every show a success. Thank you dear readers and show-goers for making our musical journey possible.
